Bunzl Retail & Industry are optimizing their packaging using the Nipper Stretch Hood
Challenge
Bunzl Retail & Industry is a leading wholesaler providing packaging, hygiene products, and logistical solutions within the food and non-food sectors. As part of their operations, Bunzl manually applied stretch hoods to roll containers, a labor-intensive process requiring two employees to manually stretch the hoods over the containers each day. This process was not only inefficient but also presented ergonomic challenges for the workers. As well as high operational costs.
Solution
Bunzl Retail & Industry partnered with Nipper BV to implement a stretch hooding machine. This machine was specifically designed to streamline the process of covering roll containers with stretch hoods, improving efficiency and ergonomics. The Nipper stretch hood machine was tailored to fit seamlessly within Bunzl’s existing warehouse setup, particularly at the dock where the containers were handled. To accomplish this Nipper implemented a unique corner in the loading bay for the Stretch Hood. The machine's design allowed for easy integration into the operational flow, ensuring that it could perfectly fit the layout and handle the volume of work at Bunzl's facility.
Results
The introduction of Nipper's stretch hood machine resulted in several significant improvements:
- Reduction in labor: The manual task that previously required two employees was now automated, freeing up workforce resources for other tasks.
- Cost savings: The machine optimized the use of stretch film, reducing the amount of material required and thus cutting down on costs.
